Word of the Day
Scripture is filled with references and stories of the wrath of God falling on sinful humanity. “God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, ‘That Thou mightest be justified in Thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou are judged.’ But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous Who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man) God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?”(Rom.3:14-16). “…for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine; I will repay,’ saith the Lord”(Rom.12:19). “I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. And the angels which kept not their fist estate, but left their own habitation, He hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.”(Jude 5-7). “For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God“(Deut.4:24; Heb.12:29).
I don’t know how many more Scriptures we need to be convinced that God is THE Judge and when His wrath falls, it destroys everything in its path. Just because I am a born-again believer does not mean that when His wrath falls I will be spared. I don’t care how faithful I may be, how outspoken against sin I may be, how much I have preached and written about the consequences of sin, when His wrath falls, if I stand in the path of His hand, it will consume me along with everyone else who stands there. And simply trying to get out of the way changes nothing. None of us holds an inside corner to God, nor are any of us His pet.
America, undoubtedly, has been the greatest and most advanced country in the history of the world. God heaped His wonderful blessings on us and we saw the world almost fall at our feet. We have seen such advancements as the mind of man could ever imagine and the world awed as we kept on producing more and more wondrous things that made life more and more comfortable and even longer. To say that we, as a nation, ruled the world is an understatement.
Our military might surpassed anything the rest of the world had ever seen or could ever produce. Our enemies cringed when we spoke and our friends smiled in comfort. In every conflict we entered, we marched through the opposing forces with such might regardless of how they tried to resist. Even after our political leaders stopped demanding total victory for our fighting forces, we still dominated. How does any nation stand against such amazing military power?
But, O, how things have changed for us! No more do our political leaders demand victory from our military. We have adopted a position of “containment” and “appeasement”, and slowly but surely our enemies gained more and more confidence to come against us. Today we face a world that is no longer awed at our power and resolve. And as a result, the world is falling apart. They correctly assume that even if we do come against them, we no longer expect nor demand victory over them. All they need do is just bide their time and we will pull out.
At home we once were a nation which had great respect for the God of Heaven and His Word. There was a time when the Church was indeed the “conscience of the community”. The Church was held in high esteem by all segments of society and was respected for her stance and her advice was sought in all occasion. Even presidents turned the man of God for advice and guidance.
But, again, O, how things have changed! The Church in America dares not speak out and “rock the boat” anymore. We dare not “make waves” by offending anyone or any institution in America. As a result, the Word of God is not spoken in the public square, nor is it rarely, in truth, spoken within the confines of the church buildings.
When the Supreme Court ruled that prayer in any public setting was not lawful, the Church faintly objected but that was it. When the same Court invented a Constitutional way to legalize abortion, the Church responded by simply designating one day a year to observe the “Sanctity of life”. Other decisions came down from this Court with absolutely no objection or even notice from the Church.
Now the same Court has ruled that “gay” marriage is the “law of the land”. The Church’s response?? Why we must “looooooove” everyone and understand their position in life, whatever that may be. We dare not speak anything that will offend any of “our friends” who might be “gay”! And this begs a question–are we doing them a favor by keeping silent and letting them burn in hell, or would it be better for everyone if we stood boldly and declared Truth to them?
And none of this will come inside the “rarefied air” of our churches, will it? We don’t have any members who would dare to have an abortion, right? And we can pray anywhere we want, as long as we pray silently and no one knows! And now we don’t have any sodomites in the Church who want to get married, right? So what do we care as long as it all stays “out there” in the world?
O, how many excuses we have found to remain silent in the face of evil as it marches across the American scene and into American life! And we want to blame “THEM”, whoever “THEM” may be! Why, we oppose it and that’s all that is required by God, isn’t it? And when God does judge, IF He does, it won’t affect me; I’ve been a good little “Christian” and He is proud of me and mine!
A few questions come into play here, again. When the Babylonians marched against Jerusalem under Nebuchadnezzar, the Jews who were “faithful” were spared, weren’t they? When the Romans came against Jerusalem in 70 AD, the Jews and Christians who lived there and were faithful were spared, were they not? When the bombs fell on Berlin during WWII, the faithful believers had “magic” walls around them that protected them from the effects of the bombs, right? Ever think of this?
If you really believe that, you are indeed so deluded. I have news for all of us–when the wrath of God falls on America(and I contend that it is here already), it will NOT play favorites in any way. Any one of us who is there will experience the same wrath. If you believe that it is just the Supreme Court, the Congress, the White House or any other group that will be on the receiving end of His wrath, you are greatly deluded. When His wrath falls it falls on all in its path.
Just look around us today. How immune are you from the high prices we are paying, the high taxes we are forced to pay, the wildfires in the west, the droughts in the west, the floods that are devastating the farmlands and the cities, the filth we are forced to see wherever we go…..
And then tell me how immune you are from His wrath just because you are not in Congress, the White House nor on the bench of the Supreme Court?
