Coming, Ready, or, Not!

Word of the Day

“But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when THEY shall say, ‘Peace and safety;’ then sudden destruction cometh upon THEM, as travail upon a woman with child; and THEY shall not escape. But, YE, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake YOU as a thief.”(I Thess.5:1-4;emphasis mine). “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming?’ for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this THEY willingly are ignorant of..”(II Peter 3-5). Notice, if you will, that Paul says that while the world will indeed, be caught unprepared and not ready, we as believers know the truth and will not be caught “as a thief in the night”.

In 1955, Look magazine declared with bold headlines, “GOD IS DEAD” and America jumped on that bandwagon wholesale. From that day to this, Americans have lived as though the magazine was right(but consider this, in 2014, Look magazine has been dead for many years; what does that say about their credibility?). We have made our own way in the world. Woodstock and the “free love and drugs” movement became a reality. There were untold thousands who were part of the generation that “dropped out” and landed on drugs and “free love”. We saw the first war that this nation ever lost, being led for the most part by this “dropped out” generation.

We have now elected leaders who were raised under the magazine’s premise and were part of this “dropped out” generation. Our institutions of higher learning have professors who swallowed the magazine’s declaration and who joined in this “dropped out” generation and are now indoctrinating the current crop of our youth. Our courts are presided over by judges from that same generation. The media, including the news, movie, music and magazine, all are populated by hold-overs from this generation and are brainwashing the American public.

While all this is taking place the Church of Jesus Christ has bought into the thinking that the return of Jesus can be known by no one and so all teaching and preaching of the rapture and the return of Jesus Christ is almost totally ignored.

When the disciples stood on that mount outside of Jerusalem and were spell-bound as they watched Jesus suddenly begin to defy gravity and disappear into the clouds, they were confronted by angels who uttered the most astounding words, “Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into Heaven? this SAME JESUS, which is taken from up from you into Heaven, SHALL SO COME IN LIKE MANNER as ye have seen Him go into Heaven.”(Acts 1:11). The word that used here to describe His return is the Greek word, “parousia”, which means a literal, bodily appearing at His return.

In other words, the angels declared that the day will come when, just as the disciples watched Him disappear into Heaven, we will literally watch Him as He reappears. It will be a literal appearing(Zechariah 12:10; John 19:37). Think about it! With our own eyes we will see Him as He descends in glory with His own(Dan.7:13; Matt.24:30; I Thess.4:17; Rev.1:7)! And we who belong to Him wait in great anticipation of this glorious event(Titus 2:13)!

But, alas, this wonderful doctrine and promise has fallen on hard times in the modern Church! We will preach all sorts of comforting and “feel good” sermons but this one(I Thess.4:18)! We have chosen to try to appease all those scoffers. We want peace and tranquility in the Church and dare not preach anything that might arouse any kind of dissension or contention, or even questions for that matter.

But how do you sweep this “blessed hope” under the rug and ignore it? Is not this ONE event the ONLY hope that we believers have? Have we bought into the thinking that we, as a church, can bring such change through our natural and intellectual solutions and that we don’t need Him to return? Are we so duped that we think that elections, petitions, polls and activism will affect real change? HOW DARE US???

While I bear no claim as to being a prophet, the son of a prophet nor a Bible scholar, and not much of a Bible student for that matter, from where I sit, I see no prophecy that lacks fulfillment before the Rapture can take place. It seems to me that everything is in place for that Trumpet blast to be heard. It certainly seems to me that we are living in those “last days” of which Peter spoke.

So the issue today seems to be our preparedness for this “blessed hope” and our being “carried away”. Much can be said and written about all this, but our being prepared is at the top of that list. Whether it is today, tomorrow or a hundred years from now(which I don’t think is going to happen), am I ready to see Him in all His glory? Am I ready to be “snatched away” and be in His presence forever?

This one thing I KNOW( and I KNOW that I KNOW!) is that I am ready to go and I am anxiously awaiting His appearing. I long to see that day when I join with that unnumbered multitude who will bow at His feet and cast crowns before Him and rejoice to be able to “see Him as He is”(I John 3:2)!

I have heard so many say they “were prepared, but not ready”; I’ve never quite understood that statement; how can one be “prepared but not ready” to go Home? Are you ready, not just “prepared”? Let’s face Truth–HE IS COMING AGAIN, READY, OR, NOT!
